The Road to Triple Crown Glory: The AEW Continental Classic

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) made a historic announcement on November 11, 2023, announcing the highly anticipated Continental Classic, a professional wrestling round-robin competition that is sure to enthral fans everywhere. The tournament will begin on the November 22, 2023, episode of Dynamite and go for six furious weeks, ending on December 30 with the Worlds End pay-per-view spectacle, according to AEW president Tony Khan and wrestling legend Bryan Danielson.

A gripping round-robin system is introduced by the Continental Classic, which splits the twelve top wrestlers into the Blue and Gold Leagues. There is a rigorous 20-minute time limit for each match, and winning teams receive three points, losing teams receive one, and draws receive none. Interference will not be allowed, and managers or seconds are not permitted at ringside. The two group winners will compete for the coveted title of the first American Triple Crown Champion in the Championship Final at Worlds End, so the stakes are higher than ever.

The competition has a stellar field of experienced athletes from several promotions. Andrade El Idolo, Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston (the NJPW Strong Openweight Champion and the ROH World Champion), Brody King, Daniel Garcia, and Claudio Castagnoli are just a few of the athletes that compete in the Blue League. In the meantime, Rush (Team Gold), Jay Lethal, Jay White, Jon Moxley, Mark Briscoe, and Swerve Strickland display their skills in the Gold League.

Triple Crown Gold Story:

The winner takes home the first-ever AEW Continental Championship as well as the Strong Openweight Championship from partner promotion New Japan Pro-Wrestling and the ROH World Championship from sister company Ring of Honour. Eddie Kingston, the holder of the final two titles, has the unusual task of defending both titles in each tournament match. After all three titles are successfully defended under the Triple Crown Championship banner throughout AEW, ROH, and NJPW, the victorious wrestler will be acknowledged as the AEW Triple Crown Champion.

A series of tournament matches spanning episodes of Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision will build excitement leading up to the League Finals on Dynamite’s December 27 edition and the championship match at Worlds End PPV.
